I find myself in a quandary. I probably should have started this blog thing later in life like in July - actually it would not have made any difference anyway. I preach once every three months and for the entire month. So, for once, I did not let my love of procrastination take over my desire to attempt to accomplish something in this lifetime. A tad too hyperbolic, perhaps? yeah, well , maybe. But not really. I spent most of my life procrastinating - putting off until tomorrow what I could have done today.
About five years ago, I decided to try my hand at preaching. The pay is not great for my little church but there is something to be said about the learning process of writing the sermon each week.
Our little church is so small that we cannot afford a full-time pastor to preach for us so we have "converted" three congregation members to fill the pulpit so we can continue to have some semblance of a church.
Anyway, I gave my "Everyone Goes to Heaven" sermon on May 7. It was met with some rather pointed comments prior to the sermon taking place. Anyhow, I do have that belief that everyone goes to heaven because what kind of a God would send anybody away for eternity? Certainly not our God. He loves all of us. But there are those who want to believe that God is a segregationist who separates the believers from the non-believers. In fact, there are even scriptures in the bible that point to that issue of separating the chaff from the rest and letting it burn up while the rest of the stalk continues to live on.
I absolutely do not believe it. I do admit it is a rather difficult concept to believe that the guys who flew the planes into the Twin Towers are in Heaven playing cards and relaxing with Hitler, Jeffrey Dahmer, Charles Whitman, Wayne Gacy, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Pontius Pilate, not to mention Judas.
Of course, those names become puffs of smoke scattered by the wind as soon as the soul enters Heaven because our souls are known by different names than what our corporeal bodies held while we were walking around here on earth.
Ever watch Star Trek? You have heard of the Holodeck Chamber? It is an area where the kids' make-believe world becomes nearly real-life events like a dream world that is being played out on stage. I am going to let that fester in your psyches for a little while. Have a great day.
More on that in a few days.
